Debris

After the February 6 earthquakes, the pressing question in everyone's mind inevitably turns to the anticipated major earthquake in Istanbul after every minor tremor. Perhaps Istanbul has never before felt such an urgent and immediate need for transformation and reconstruction following a seismic event.

When I returned to Istanbul after the earthquake, I noticed that some structures around me had either begun undergoing urban transformation or new "stable" buildings were being constructed. The corrugated metal panels that cover the mess of construction sites eventually highlight how the memory of the February 6 earthquakes fades. Over time, they become indistinguishable from ordinary advertisements, signaling the gradual forgetting of the disaster.
